How to Get Better, Faster! The Training Habits That Will Skyrocket Your Abilities!

If you have the drive to improve your basketball skills but aren’t exactly sure how to take your game to the next level, then look no further- this article is for you!

One of the first steps athletes take when trying to take their skills to the next level is training with others. Having extra eyes on your practice to give you external feedback is undoubtedly useful in figuring out where you may be getting sloppy, or where minor adjustments in form can drastically transform your game.

Even still, many players do not use their group training experiences to their utmost potential. At Inner Drive Hoops, our Elite Skills Trainers work closely with you and your peers to ensure that this is not the case. You are guaranteed a group training experience that will make the most out of your valuable time and take full advantage of the many benefits group training has to offer. Our trainers understand the importance of demonstration – not only so our athletes can understand the concepts being taught, but so that they can replicate them as well. Being able to replicate a trainer’s movements is a skill that blasts athletes’ abilities into the stratosphere, and that unfortunately, many athletes neglect in their training sessions. Replicating the proper form of a trainer with a good amount of repetition is a phenomenal way to increase motor neuron function and improve muscle memory. Enough practice, and shooting 3s will feel as easy as walking down the street!

Another common mistake that inhibits athletes’ growth in their training is the fear of asking coaches questions. While it can feel intimidating to admit to a coach that you don’t understand something completely, asking for help is a surefire way to guarantee continued growth both mentally and physically. Our trainers are very aware of how important asking questions is to player development and go out of their way to remain friendly and open to all kinds of training questions. So speak up! You won’t regret it!

Outside of group training, making a habit out of practicing on your own will absolutely help you reach your basketball goals faster. Be sure not to phone it in, either. Practice with proper intensity and make that work count for something! All the best players take time to practice on their own and let’s be honest, we all have things that need a little extra work, so put that time in!

It’s also vital to take time to study the game. Whether it be watching back your own games, listening to your favorite players and coaches, or seeking out training videos, spending time soaking in the game of basketball will without a doubt enrich your understanding of the game and improve your on-the-court skills. Stay focused, try to avoid going down the rabbit hole of flashy highlight reels, and use YouTube to your benefit!
